The Knoll Gardens Foundation is holding a special open day on Friday 4 May in an effort to attract volunteers to fill a number of key roles.
The Wimborne-based horticultural charity promotes a sustainable, wildlife friendly gardening style which can create stunning effect whilst requiring little maintenance. Volunteers undertake a variety of roles and the Foundation is currently looking for someone interested in labelling the garden’s collection of woody plants, as garden guides, meet and greet enthusiasts, fundraisers and an education support volunteer as well as people interested in helping to forge links with the local community.
Peter Gear, Chairman of Trustees, said, “We already have a number of wonderful volunteers who share our enthusiasm for wildlife-friendly gardens. Now we want to meet like-minded people who are interested in joining our team.
“This special open day is a great opportunity for garden lovers to understand more about what the charity does and how they can get involved. Foundation volunteers will be in the garden from 10 – 2pm to talk about their role, and explain more about the ethos of the garden. There will also be an opportunity to talk to Trustees about the volunteering opportunities currently available.
“Perhaps one of the more unusual volunteer roles on offer is that of education support volunteer. Our monthly toddler club, Bugs and Buds is currently oversubscribed and we need help to be able to offer more places to the next generation of nature lovers and gardeners. The Knoll Gardens Foundation is also getting ready to welcome primary school visits so there will soon be an opportunity to also work with older children. Another key role is that of fundraiser. We now have several specific projects looking for funding and someone with bid writing experience would be a wonderful addition to our multi-talented team.”
Knoll Gardens is located in Hampreston Lane between Wimborne and Ferndown. The volunteer recruitment day runs from 10am to 2pm on Friday 4 May and admission is free for this special event. More information, including detailed descriptions of the roles available, can be found on the Volunteers page at www.knollgardensfoundation.org or call 01202 873931.
