Sometime in the afternoon of Easter Sunday fire broke out in Cannon Hill plantation just to the North and below the archaeological tumulus known as “the viewpoint”. By around 2pm there were four fire appliances on site, though there was a delay in obtaining the keys to the new locks at the Cannon Hill Road and Uddens Drive gates. By the morning of the 25th the three or four acres affected were still smouldering and a fire Service vehicle and personnel were still on site – damping down.
