Statement from Management Committee
After checking archives for the Hall, we discovered that our Hall was originally planned as a Village Hall for the residents of Colehill after World War 2, created as a “Welcome Home” to those who had served our country.
Over the past few years, the Hall has faced a number of challenges:
- Pressure on finances partly due to increasing maintenance costs
- Uncompetitive hire charges at weekend – leading to decline in income
- Further investment required to improve the Hall facilities for the future
- Fewer new users at the hall
- Is the hall serving the whole Colehill community?
The Management Committee considered these issues, and have during the Covid shutdown worked together to resolve these issues. Part of the solution was felt to be the many improvements now taking place, and other planned, to widen the appeal of this facility to the local community.
A number of changes were considered and discussed, including a name change at a meeting of the Management Committee and representatives from the Hall User Groups (28th June 2021)
The challenges identified are now being addressed, including a reduction in fees for all user groups, and have already lead to a significant increase in bookings – particularly children’s groups and birthday parties.
In order to future-proof our Village Hall, a program of investment has started, and will continue over the next few years, including:
- Main Hall redecoration – now completed
- New curtains – to be installed during November 2021
- New sign and noticeboard – before end of 2021
- Other Planned Work
- External landscaping (including patio area), outside seating space
- New gates, local signage
- Additional kitchen equipment, Toilet refurbishment,
To keep this valuable asset for our community, we need more people to help, by joining the Committee who are all volunteers.
