Grant Aid awards

June 2024

On Tuesday night (June 25th) the Finance & General Purposes Committee resolves to give three Grant Aid awards to the following organisations:

Vision Wimborne Dial-a-Ride

Dial-a-Ride is a Wimborne-based volunteer-staffed charity which provides specially adapted vehicles to help people who have difficulty getting out and about. The volunteer drivers, using the four Dial-a-Ride vehicles, drive a wide range of mobility-impaired customers, some in wheelchairs, to hospitals, shops, hairdressers, doctors etc. The service is available to anyone with mobility problems living within a five-mile radius of Wimborne. Clients book their journey with the office and pay the driver with a donation which is agreed at the time of booking. Call 01202 880699 to book. The office is open from 9.30am to 12.30 on weekdays with an answering service outside these hours.

The grant made of £500 will go towards the running costs of this vital service which serves so many Colehill residents.

Colehill First School Association
The Colehill First School Association is a parent-teacher group who raise funds for the school. They meet 4-5 times a year and put on some really enjoyable events throughout the school year for the children and parents – including a Christmas Fair and Summer Fair. Whether shopping for bargains, or coming up with new fundraising ideas, being part of the CFSA is a great way to meet other parents and to contribute to the provision that the school can make for its pupils.

The £1,000 grant will fund the installation of a new large sandpit to support their OPAL learning which is the same as the one funded by the Council and currently being installed at Hayeswood First School. More information on this national initiative can be found here Colehill First School – OPAL – Outdoor Play and Learning

Colehill & Wimborne Youth & Community Centre AKA The Reef
The Reef as it is more commonly known is a Colehill Charity which provides a Community Centre for activities and private hire booking throughout the week but which also runs the local Youth Service covering Colehill, Wimborne Minster and all surrounding areas. There is no limit or restriction on membership. The youth service is funded by the Reef and run by Dorset Youth. This costs the charity £15,000 per year – the funding for which is generated by the hall hire, fund-raising and grants. The Council is thrilled to be able to help The Reef of £5,000 towards this costly annual figure to ensure the youth of Colehill have a good quality youth service. More details on what The Reef has to offer can be found on their website The Reef, Youth & Community Centre in Colehill
