Last year we conducted a household survey asking you, among other things, what issues mattered the most to you and your family. 67% of respondents identified with the need to provide safe walking routes, particularly for children walking to and from school along Middlehill Road. In addition traffic related matters were the most common issues raised in your free format comments.
Based on this we have initiated discussions with Dorset Council to understand their process for installing new crossings. There are a lot of steps to go through to determine whether any particular site qualifies for a crossing, including counting the numbers of pedestrians and cars in the vicinity, and taking account of the number of accidents and the difficulty of crossing the road. If a site qualifies then it has to wait for funding to become available, which may take some time.
Your Feedback
Our thanks to the 95 people who responded to our recent request on this site for residents to let us know whether they would like us to pursue the possibility of pedestrian crossings being installed on Middlehill Road, and if so at what locations.
- 92% (87 people) said they support the idea of pedestrian crossings on Middlehill Road.
- 5% (5 people) object to any pedestrian crossings being constructed.
- 3 people gave no opinion, but raised other points.
On possible locations, people suggested the following sites:
- near St Michael’s church for the Middle school (16 people)
- near the co-op (19 people)
- near the pharmacy (17 people)
- near the library (6 people)
- near Colehill first school (15 people)
- near Cutlers for Hayeswood school (16 people)
We will use this feedback in our discussions with Dorset Council to understand the feasibility of installing crossings and to select the most appropriate sites for assessment.
